I would like to apologize and take responsibility for the recent troubles among my RL friends. I was talking informally, used un-diplomatic language and failed to take into account that LJ is a public place. I feel like one of those stupid characters in an afterschool special who didn't heed the warning calls from the audience.

I must be missing something.

If you end up having a Christmas party at your new place, the rules as to who gets to attend are completely up to you and [livejournal.com profile] green_trilobite. If someone takes umbrage at that, AFAIC, that's their problem, not yours.

Or are you just being all post-modern and ironic, and spoofing GWB's non-acceptance-of-responsibility acceptance-of-responsibility last night? (That's like Rosie O'Donnell's non-apology apology, I suppose.)

If you're not being all post-modern and ironic, then frankly, I don't see it as being your responsibility to accommodate Hope's boredom anyway. Let her throw her own Christmas party. ;)

Christmas Party

What you are missing is insulting the host/hostess of the past Christmas parties. As said hostess, I have no objections to anyone else throwing a party and inviting/not inviting whomever they wish.

I just feel that in doing so, there is no need to insult my family and our hospitality in the past years.

Ah. I didn't interpret the post that way - I interpreted it as merely a retelling of Hope's rudeness. (And having known her for 15 years - I used to work with her - I know the depths of tactlessness to which she can sink.)

My gratitude

Please note as I indicated on Handful of Dust's website, that I am grateful to you for sharing of your comments, rather than holding you responsible - you might have chosen "undiplomatic" language, but the sentiment expressed by others come clearly through. And I would rather know the truth, than have it whispered behind my back.

Nor would I hold you "responsible" because you and green_trilobite were the persons chosen as an alternate to us hosting the party.

The trouble is, I stated what I believed she meant, rather than what she actually said, and it wasn't my place to do that.

I could see the sting of being inadvertantly told your parties stink, given the amount of work needed to make them happen. Perhaps saying "time to shake things up a little" or "time for a change" would work better next time
life is a just series of mistakes and lucky breaks. Don't sweat it
