The HBO show is a prequel/origin story, so the D.A. is a corrupt dude played by Stephen Root; about halfway through the series, though, we meet Assistant D. A. Burger (he's the one having dinner with Della Street in a photo above), who’s gunning for the job, and consequently willing to throw a little assistance Perry’s way…. One viewer wondered if this version of the character would end up kicking himself for that later, though as another pointed out, much as Mason’s courtroom dramatics annoy Burger, the latter does prefer justice to winning, and Mason usually ends up revealing the real killer.
