Often fics are tonally-opposite to canon, because they’re written to compensate—if the original story is a comedy, sometimes people want to explore the more dramatic possibilities of the characters and setting; if the original is a high-stakes drama where a lot of the cast die, then fandom writes a lot of fix-its and sweet, fluffy AUs where nobody's life is in danger in the first place.

All of which is to say, there's a lot of fluffy fics for Les Miserables.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Less than last year, even though I should theoretically have had more time for it. I think this was largely because I tend to do a lot of writing in coffee shops (because the chances of being interrupted are far lower than at work or at home), and this year I couldn’t.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?
All were fairly unexpected, but I guess the least-likely was “Debit/Credit.” (especially since I still haven’t been able to watch Twin Peaks: The Return and this was based on episode summaries and clips found on YouTube).

What's your favourite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
Pass.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.
“Mayhaps You Should Read”—it was the first one anyone posted in the Perry Mason (2020) tag, and people seemed to enjoy the Perry Mason and Pete Strickland dialogue.

Story most underappreciated by the universe?
“Intervals,” but then Homecoming doesn’t seem to have much of a fandom.

Story that could have been better?

Also “Intervals.” I loved the characters enough to want more of them, but it was hard to think of anything for them to do.

Sexiest story?
Well, Pete Strickland would say “Mayhaps You Should Read.”

Saddest story?
(Spoiler) “Hello, I Must Be Going,” if you know what happens in the next episode.

Most fun?

Tie between “Mayhaps You Should Read” and “The Missing Mrs. Leonard.” Combined this question with Easiest/most fun story to write?

Story with single sweetest moment?

Not sure. “Hello, I Must Be Going” is pretty much the only one to directly depict a romantic couple.

Hardest story to write?
“Intervals,” see above.

Most overdue story?
Not sure what’s meant here.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Maybe “It’s ok to write short vignettes?”

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
No unified theme that I noticed.

What are your fic writing goals for next year?
Undecided, though I’d be happy to get back to multi-chapter stuff.

Look at the most recent 20 fanwork titles on your AO3 account.

(For me this includes a series with an overarching title and the stories named for the year in which they take place, so I’m grouping them but still counting them individually)

1. How many are you happy with?   Seven or so, but that’s including the series title The Bureaucracy of the Otherworld Was Surprisingly Generous When It Came to Transportation which has seven stories under its aegis.

2. How many are... not great?   I don’t actually dislike any of them, but I can’t remember why Intervals is called that.

3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?   Two or three?

4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?   At least four.

5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?   Three.

6. How many are other quotes?   One

7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?   The Missing Mrs. Leonard pretty much sets up the premise.

8. Which best reflects the theme of the story/fanwork?   Whatever Became of Montana Wildhack?

9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the fanwork?   Not sure how well any of them do, but I like The Place Where It's Always "And" both as a title and as a story (and as a line in the story).

10. Which is your favourite?   Toss-up between the previous reply and Hello, I Must Be Going
