Fans of 18th-c automata take note - the Japanese have hobby kit versions of some of the classic mechanical dolls of the Edo period. Probably made of plastic and metal rather than wood and bamboo, but they do look pretty cool.

Also this may be the creepiest automaton ever - it has clowns *and* decapitation!
