Hywel Bennet manages to say the name "Linda" in an even creepier way than those actors on the tv screen in Fahrenheit 451 (1966).

According to this article from when the series was first aired, Ian McDiarmid was cast in a small role specifically because he looked a lot like Dennis Potter. Except thirty years later I'm thinking "Woah, it's Senator Palpatine!"

I love seeing young Ian McDiarmid! And now I guess I know what Dennis Potter looked like.

)Well, notthat young-- McDiarmid's character is mostly referred to as "The Old Man."

Hah. Fair enough. My non-Palpatine image of him is primarily from Trevor Nunn's 1978 Macbeth.

huh, there’s a whole Ian McDiarmid fan-channel by the looks of it.

There's some nice stuff on it! I am delighted.

(Anyway, yes, in the suspenders, that's him.)

It turns out that the famous Melvyn Bragg interview with Potter is on Youtube, and you know what, I can see the resemblance.
