I decided to try and make it a mid-century literary ghost story type of thing, complete with framing narrative. The tricky part was deciding if Father Mackenzie was Catholic or Anglican— he’s got an Irish name, but St. Peter’s, Woolton, whose churchyard actually contains the gravestone with the name Eleanor Rigby, is Anglican.
