That’s Not a Helpful Description of the Tune, Sir

There was a post going round Tumblr a few weeks back regarding whether, in the song “Piano Man,”  Paul, the real-estate novelist, and Davy, who’s still in the navy, are a couple and the Piano Man just hasn’t figured it out. I put forth the suggestion that the Piano Man has unknowingly landed a gig in a gay bar, which is why he keeps thinking “look at all these poor lonely guys” while all the regulars keep asking him “man, what are you doing here?”

Today it occurred to me there’s probably fanfic for the song, so I checked AO3. I’m pleased to report that yes, there is; but even better, there’s also fanfic for Tom Waits’ “The Piano Has Been Drinking.”

In unrelated news, I’ve no idea who names these paint colours, but they’re getting way too creative with it.
