People’s lives synch up in some ways. We seem to be going through a patch where a lot of my acquaintance have at least one aged cat— my brother had to have his beloved Edison euthanized just after Christmas, and various others are currently dealing with loss or illness. I took Narly to the vet last weekend (or was it the weekend before?), as he’d been noticeably lethargic for a couple of days. He’s fifteen years old and has had kidney disease for a few years, and the test results weren’t exactly great; but switching him to the “Recovery” cat food and increasing his evening saline drip this week appears to have helped— his back legs are a bit wobbly, but his energy and appetite are better and he’s resumed self-grooming. I saw him play the “chase my tail” game with Nana last night, as well. He’s scheduled this afternoon for a shot of something that’s supposed to help with the anemia. He may have pulled off another reprieve; he must be on his seventh or eighth life by now.

I had a medical appointment of my own scheduled for this morning, so I’ve taken the day off. Mine was follow-up on my shoulder issues, which in any case seem to be easing off; I’ve been able to cut down on the Lyrica the past couple of months, and I think my range of motion is a little better. The hospital staff all seemed oddly hyper. The physio congratulated me on recounting my medical history so clearly, in answer to her questions; there was something in her reactions as though my answers were amusing bon-mots at a cocktail party, though the only really funny thing I said was when, in answer to the question “where do you work?” I hesitated and began: “At a desk....” The doctor came rushing through, looked at my MRIs. According to him it’s classic frozen shoulder (he tried to explain the capsulitis by analogy: “You know that thing for clothing storage where you put your clothes in a plastic bag and then it sucks all the air out?”) and wants to try another steroid shot but this time have it done by a radiologist on the idea that their aim will be better.

Read through my draft of Meadowville again. I feel as though the skeleton is ok, but the second half feels rushed. I need to find some way to space out the plot points so the reader has time to take each one in and react to it, rather than just going WAIT WHAT JUST HAPPENED? WAS THAT TIME TRAVEL? WHAT’S WITH THE RUTABAGAS AND THE CHALK DRAWINGS AND WHY DOES SHE SPEND SO MUCH TIME DESCRIBING THE FURNITURE?

I really wish I'd known about recovery food before today.

Hope you and Narly are on the mend.
