Once again I find myself wondering if this is something I had heard about and forgot, or if I TIL there was a 1976 tv adaptation of Beauty and the Beast that starred George C. Scott. Wonder, because now that I know that, I feel like there’s a clip in my head of a disheveled, human Scott lying in a dusty floor— but I can’t tell if it’s a real memory, or something my imagination just ran up for the occasion. Either way I need to watch this (looks like it’s on YouTube) because (incoherent flailing) I suspect this might be the closest thing to an adaptation of Angela Carter’s ‘The Courtship of Mr. Lyon’ that currently exists in our universe.

Belle and the Beast trade banter, argue about Aristotle and do cute couple stuff! Somebody saw the Cocteau version because Belle cups water in her hands for him! Belle’s dysfunctional family and loyal kid brother! The only version I’ve seen where Belle’s reaction to a humanize Beast is to cross-examine him in case he’s an imposter!
