I always used to complain about my birthday being the same day as Pearl Harbour and the same week as a lot of other bad anniversaries (and if anyone who knows me is reading this, I've pretty much just shot my anonymity). The BiPolarBear finally got tired of this and offered to share his birthday, which has the added attraction of warmer weather. Unfortunately I think I dragged my birthday's bad rep with me, as his mother fell that day and broke her hip. She's 83, so he's been worrying that this is the Beginning of the End, although I do think she'll recover - it's been less than a week, and she was to have been transferred to the rehab clinic today (yesterday) - a couple of hopefully minor complications have delayed this till tomorrow (today).

Seeing him so scared has been reminding me of how much he needs me, and how much I worry about him.

I also know that I kind of remind him of his mother (in personality, definitely not in looks). That's ok. She's a cool lady. This is also why she and I like each other but don't have much to say (also she's very hard of hearing).

On another note, I might just have a job, come this weekend, as a bilingual graveyard-shift proofreader. In Don Mills. I assume it involves correcting all the reports that have been written that day for the following morning, hence the hours. So I can justify being awake this late as resetting my clock.

I just watched Kill Bill Vol. 2 again, and find myself more sympathetic in my reaction to Bud - it kind of seemed on this viewing as though his burying of The Bride alive is so that if she's really meant to succeed in her revenge quest, she'll have a fighting chance.

Lance Henrikson's presence in AVP (seen Tuesday, not really a spoiler but)
turns out to be something of a red herring, as they never really make that much of a connection between his character, Charles Bishop Wayland, and the universe of Aliens. A shot of a magazine cover indicates Wayland is known in the world of cybernetics, but it isn't clear if the project that will result in the Bishop android has already been begun by him, or whether Bishop is created by someone a century later and patterned after Wayland as an in-joke, the way an aeronautics project might be codenamed "Orville." Does The Company, years later, know of the existence of Aliens because of the ill-fated 2004 Antactic expedition? Depends on how much the sole survivor told them, and I suppose she had to tell them something.

That said, it's a pretty good action film, and takes this at least from the Alien franchise - the lead character, like Ripley, is waaa-yyy smarter and more pragmatic than the average movie character. So it's been a week of ass-kicking women, at least.

Glad to hear your future mother-in-law is doing better. It's been a bad couple of weeks for older friends and family lately. Mary, who lives on the top floor of my house and co-owns the place with her daughter Laurel had a minor stroke about two weeks back. She's in re-hab now and is expected to fully recover in another month or so. Which is great, she's a really good person.

Job news is good. Will this be full time? Will no one ever see you during the day again? My friend Janet worked the night shift at Celestica for 18 months so it was interesting hooking up with her. Actually, she stayed at my place for a few weeks while finding a new place to live, and we hardly saw each other; she not returning before I set out in the morning, and then usually up and about before I got back.

Don't know. I haven't heard back yet so it's possible they've found a vampire with better French and hired him/her instead (sharpens stake).
