Last night in a taxicab green_trilobite was subjected to the radiophonic horror that is CHYM-FM's Lovers & Other Strangers. I'd heard bits of this show occasionally on late-night convenience-store runs, but there's nothing like being stuck in a cab with it for 20 minutes or so: ultra-saccharine music alternates with the host reading "inspirational" short stories which generally seem to involve crippled children or animals. In fact I realized last night that I'd only ever heard one single story on that show that did not involve someone with a crippled leg - it was about Howard Hughes, or rather, "and that man....was Howard Hughes." One of last night's stories actually managed to involve both a crippled puppy and a crippled little boy. Seriously, this is starting to creep me out when I think about it; I mean one or two stories, it might be a sentimental cliché, but now I'm starting to suspect the host has a kink for it.

"But he had something even more important than that. He had... heart."

Oh, god, is that still on the air? I think my father used to listen to it when I was little.
