Recent Reading (links roundup)

Lately I've decided that a good way to browse AO3 is not to search specific fandoms, but to look at fics I've previously enjoyed enough to bookmark, see who liked them enough to comment, and go look at their works/bookmarks. In several cases, I’ve also located the DW accounts of the writers and added them to my circle (waves).

So far this has led me to:

Thrice Wider by Lilliburlero for Gehayi

 (a look at what the dying Falstaff might actually have been trying to say, when he babbled of green fields)

The Healing Fountain, or, The English Aristocrat’s Gentleman’s Gentleman’s Gymslip Lover by Nineveh_uk for Azdak, antisoppist

 (Hilary Thorpe (The Nine Tailors) finishes university and publishes her first novel, and Lord Peter can’t help but notice that the romantic hero is a dashing gentleman’s gentleman who seems very familiar)

work it out with your fingers by Febricant for Wotwotleigh

 (a Blazing Saddles fic that keeps the absurdist internal logic of the original)

I'll take it, it'll do by themis for seawench

(I haven’t even seen Stoppard’s Arcadia, though I do have a general notion of the plot, but this is wonderful)

It’s probably not coincidence that these were all Yuletide requests.

Yeah, looking at the bookmarks of writers I like has turned out to be a lot more helpful than kudos or comments -- the kudos thing in particular is frustrating, a lot of works get a ton of attention when the fandom first starts up and then everything else later gets ignored. Altho I do really miss the search and tagging options on Delicious, or even pinboard.

Though often other readers’ tastes only slightly overlap with mine. There’s someone out there who, judging by their other bookmarks, is mainly into Regency romance and Transformers (though not together, more’s the pity.)
