In the dream, I was painting in a studio, possibly a student or assistant (not the teacher) in a course. Just before I woke up, I was listening to a recording of the surviving score of a 1920s musical (title something like Vacation?) -- this particular song was called 'How Did We Get Here,' came from early in Act I, and was a duet between the heroine's artist father and his longtime colleague/best friend as they reflect on their relationship. "Why isn't it called 'Just go For It,' Andrew (in the dream) asked, and I agreed and wondered if enough of the book had survived to tell if he was right about the subtext, and whether the story eventually paired the two off with older female characters or whether they were allowed each other, if only by implication. As is often the way with songs in dreams, I can't recall the words or tune (besides the line "how did we get here"), only the wistfulness of it. Writing this down now in case I forget by morning.
