Been a mildly stressful few weeks, here. More so for Andrew. We’d run up a fair bit on our respective credit cards in the past few years, and this summer the younger cat needed dental work (not covered by his insurance), and then last month Andrew needed dental work (veneers, therefore not covered by our dental insurance). It was, at least, the push I needed to look into consolidating our debts into a bank loan, which was approved last weekend. Sure, it’s trading one form of debt for another, but the interest rate is way lower, and I think cutting up Andrew’s card and having to pay back a fixed amount per month over the next three years will make it easier to resist temptation. But meanwhile the older cat has just had his third blood test (covered by his insurance, thankfully) and the vet is scheduling a biopsy (maybe covered) and my own selfish feeling is “if he has something terminal, can we please find out for sure soon.” Andrew is upset and worried. I tell him we’ll do what’s best for Carter, whether that’s treatment, euthanasia, or palliative care, but that until we find out which, torturing himself isn’t going to affect the outcome. I suppose that’s why I want to know the outcome ASAP. Andrew feels grief strongly, but uncertainty is worse.

I am reminded that I don’t seem to feel things as strongly. I try to be kind and good, but I’m not sure if it’s natural or by conscious effort. I suppose from anyone else’s PoV, it’s the same.

Meanwhile, Carter eats a little, and continues to periodically come to me for ear rubs, so life goes on for the time being.
