Not sure why* except that it's October, but I was thinking just now about the BtVS episode where everyone turns into their Hallowe'en costume and realized: wait, that's W.S. Gilbert's The Mountebanks. OMG the lozenge plot finally got used.
* Actually I do know - it's because I used the word "neat" in my head, and it made me think of Spike watching the chaos and commenting well this is just... neat."

The turning-into-your-costume gag really doesn't work for me in any medium outside literature (because we're watching actors anyway, there's not enough of a difference for me in watching fictional characters turn into other characters. If WSG couldn't make me believe in it, there's little hope for an episode of Buffy.
That said, I have a much-beloved set of bootleg CDs of "The Mountebanks." It's the best bad opera I've ever heard, I'm alternately laughing at it and with it, and I'm addicted to Ultrice's song "When hungry cat on sportive mouse..."
