Made the mistake of visiting little_details for the first time in a few months, and now I can't sleep because I'm mentally constructing explanations and summings-up of typical little_details topics. It doesn't help that one of the posts I read touched on one of my pet peeves, which is People Misunderstand Inbreeding. Even though the community pretty much explained it all quite well, I'm still going "and also the problems people tend to associate with, say, Appalachian communities of the early 20th-c were probably due in large part to poverty and iodine deficiencies"
And...that's Don's cue...

Not only does it remind me to take my iodine supplement but I would have otherwise stayed up all night working on the Nakamichi BX-150 tape deck that I found on the curb this afternoon. (Not to mention the Pioneer CLD-990 laser disc player!). As you can see in the attached picture, the floating wheel between the two reels is not snug enough against the drive shaft: causing the unit to eat tapes. It's a total disassembly job to get to the spring that's worn out.
Although, hmmm......"thread". Perhaps additional tension could be created with a cunning web of nylon thread! Get back to you on inbreeding in a minute.......

Indeed, for even with a good Chi-squared score co-relation does not indicate causation.

Update: It was an all-nighter but I now have a reasonably working top-of-the-line tapedeck.
