It turns out there were no real vampires in Mark of the Vampire just some actors an investigator had hired to flush out a murderer.......somehow.

We then watched Mask of Fu Manchu which is even more racist than the average Fu Manchu movie - seriously, I couldn't tell where in the world the action was supposed to be taking place, because the evil doctor was apparently heading up some sort of everybody-who-isn't-white coalition. However, I did enjoy his sleek modernist deathtraps and Tesla-coil-adorned lab. Also, he injected the male lead with a cocktail of venoms that temporarily brainwashed him and gave him the ability to act in a non-wooden manner.

Afterwards we watched The Return of Doctor X, which....needs to be better-known than it is. Blood transfusions! Reporters! Huntz Hall for one scene! Humphrey Bogard in gothy makeup and surgical scrubs, stroking a white rabbit!

Now we're watching Mad Love. Poor Dr. Gogol; if he weren't an obsessed stalker he'd be the hero of this story.

In the original print stories Fu was more racist than the protagonists!
