Either:

A surprising number of people who fill out forms don't get why there's a space marked "initial" between the "first name" and "last name" spaces;

Or:

A surprising number of people have two middle names, which just happen to bear the same initials as their first and last names.

Maybe they only have two names and are initialing the form to show that these are indeed them.

I think that's the logic - it's just that the train of thought must go something like "OK, first name - huh - now they want me to initial this space before moving on to write my last name. Seems a bit redundant, but who am I to argue, etc."

My real first name, last name, and middle name all start with the same letter. Makes my monogram easy, yes it does. *grin*

My friend, Olav Victory Randoja, has a name where the last letter of each name is the first of the next: making it easy to run them together if he wants.

Shouldn't he be Olav Victory Yrandoja, then?

Ooops, that's "Victor" not "Victory".
