Yesterday I found some acrylic yarn called Bernat Mosaiic – basically it looks like Noro Kureyon, but is slightly cheaper and more importantly, not itchy; mind you it looks like the sort of texture that might pill with use. Have begun some cabled armwarmers; the colourway is very nice, and so far has produced wide, subtly-transitioning stripes in purple, dark green and brown (there’s also some beige coming up in the skein).

I initially misread that as 'an acrylic yam'. Didn't make any sense as you're not a silicon based life-form!

Mmmmm - keep us posted as to what you discover. I knit throughout the winter....but use only wool.

Normally I like wool, but kureon is pretty scratchy. Also, post-moths, green_trilobite gets nervous if I bring any more wool into the house (and unravelling thrift store sweaters is now on the list of Things I’m Not Allowed to Do); so I’ve been looking into acrylic. I don’t mind acrylic in accessories, but it gets sweaty if I use it for anything meant to cover my torso (exception – I made a fuzzy blue bolero sweater to wear over my dress at my cousin’s wedding a few months ago; it’s some unknown fibre which is probably synthetic, but I can wear it without getting soggy, maybe because it’s cropped and open in front.)

I use acrylic for toys and I do knit a lot of toys...so I meant I only use wool for humans...I am not one of those snobby knitters who eschews acrylic or melds. They absolutely have their purpose. But not for something I would wear. I do not have a wool allergy. I also like cotton but no give..and the exotics are too pricey.

I tried the recycled yarn thing...but it put me off. I hope you weren't too attached to the idea of it.
