Watching Johnny Test - recalling Ned's Newt, Fairly Odd Parents, etc., and further back, stuff like Barnaby, and wondering if Five Children & It was the progenitor of the whole "kids have a magical/mad scientist friend but their wishes always backfire and thereby hangs a tale" genre.
