Went to Mike Glickson's memorial last night. I actually hadn't known him that well, so I felt a little like an imposter, although I started laughing at his brother's Beyond the Fringe reference before anyone else. Like most funerals (including those of people I did know well), it left me wishing I had known him better. At any rate I hope to meet his wife Susan again under happier circumstances – she seems like a very charming woman. It was a United Church funeral for someone who'd been an aetheist – there was a fair bit of "Mike'd be a bit embarrassed over the fuss we're making, but one day we'll catch up to him in heaven and say 'told you so.' "

Afterwards there was a wake, noisy enough that green_trilobite, sitting in the front room, was unable to hear me yelling from the front hall three metres away that the taxi had arrived.
