I swear the woman across the office keeps the radio on just so she can complain about the music – well, that and the phone-in contests.

I couldn't work at all in a place where they let people play radios.

It doesn’t bother me as much as tv or loud conversation; I usually can’t make out the lyrics clearly enough to worry about critiquing or even parsing them, and melody doesn’t distract me as much as meaning.

My first job? Lawyer's office, and the head secretary pumped the radio through the phone system somehow. Soak Up the Sun came on about five times a day, sounding tinny coming out of an improperly suited speaker, crackling and popping. For a long time afterwards if that song came on when I was out shopping, or the like, I'd have to leave the store til it was over.
