It had occurred to me she just needs to think there's a risk, especially since she's not on great terms with Marj just now -- I could make it that her sister's struggles to conceive have left her paranoid about her own ability to bear children – enough that she goes all OMG THIS IS MY ONLY CHANCE and leaves for a post on land. The trouble is how to do this without making her seem like a total bitch, but I can probably emphasize her fear and empathy with her sister's problems as the cause.
