Just learned, via Making Light, that it's been a very good year for British archeological finds: they found a smaller megalithic site near stonehenge, dubbed "Bluhenge," and a spectacular Anglo-Saxon hoard which confirms (if you didn't know already) that the Anglo-Saxons rocked at cloisonee.

And don't forget that the metal detector salesmen will dine off that Anglo-Saxon Hoard find forever. "Find buried treasure in your spare time!"

Well, yeah, but then you have to turn it over to the government, if you're in Britain.

Added - however, it looks like the finder and the owner of the land on which it was found are owed the value of the treasure as reward; so, works out pretty well for them.
