I think "gold medal shortage on home world" and "presidentchancellorking of micronation must do every event himself," if combined, more or less form the plot of the movie "Million Dollar Legs."

Also "curling contest for immortal soul" actually *is* the plot of "The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon."
