Took the day off and spent it rushing around on errands and trying to keep green_trilobite calm till the fumigator arrived. We then had to be out of the apartment for the rest of the day, so we went to see Captain America. First piece of good news - one of the trailers was for John Carter of Mars - it wasn't just a rumour; they're doing it in period, and Tars Tarsus looks pretty good. Also saw the trailer for Tintin - like the cast, still uncertain about the animation.

OK - Captain America - well worth seeing. Stuff I liked - good story construction; Stanley Tucci as Dr. Erskine; Toby Jones is basically the new Ronald Lacey; lots of Marvel references of which I only got about half; and who doesn't love a flying wing?* Also, when Steve Rogers had his shirt off I think I spotted a smallpox-vaccination scar, so props to the make-up people.

My only quibble is hardly even a real quibble - Rogers (pre-transformation) is supposed to be 4F for a long list of reasons including asthma and a heart murmur, but those aren't very visual, so mostly everyone just harps on how short and skinny he is; and I actually *didn't* find him that ridiculously small for a 1940s American soldier. That's probably just me, though - and I honestly thought I was seeing two different actors doing a good job of playing the same guy pre- and post-transformation, but according to IMDb it was all Chris Evans; so I guess some sort of LotR effects were being used to make him look small in the early scenes.

* It goes into freefall at one point, which means for about 10-15 seconds we get a zero-g fight.
