So - 'twas a weekend of booksales, boardgames and cosmopolitains (happy birthday, kelpqueen). I proved my love to green_trilobite by waiting in the line-up with him for about 4 hours, to get first crack at the Trinity used book sale, and about 20 minutes on Sunday for the Old Paper Show in the CBC building.

I actually made a better score at the latter - three issues of an early-30s womens' magazine called The Delineator (one of which contained an H.C. Bailey Reggie Fortune story, yay). They're not in mint condition but they're intact, and the ads may be worth scanning. I'm familiar enough with the history of advertising to not be surprised by the preponderance of "hey - maybe you smell bad" warnings; actually I *was* surprised to only notice one bit of advice to married women to douche with scary things (someone pointed out a while back that this was probably done for purposes of contraception, but they couldn't actually say so because of the laws against it, so there was a lot of stuff about the importance of "freshness" etc to *married* women).

I was also interested in a lot of the nutritional concerns expressed in the food ads - Fleishman's yeast kept getting pitched as a health thing, but more interestingly, canned pineapple as a source of vitamins and an aid to digestion (probably true - it does contain enzymes that help break down meat).

Ok, I have to get to work now.
