How I Spent My Xmas Vacation
Jan. 3rd, 2006 02:13 pmVisiting friends, mostly. Diners on the 23rd converged on a tiny(ish) restaurant at the back of a building next to a No Frills grocery store; said restaurant turned out to have jukeboxes at each booth, some of which worked. Afterwords as people drifted away, green_trilobite, Don and I wound up following Jason downtown and around the Bay flagship store as he did last-minute shopping. Later he went home and we stopped in for a late-night snack at the Pickle Barrel, which appears to have been bought and re-decorated by a James Bond villain. I approved of this, and later when we ran into angrykat and spouse on the way home, I advised them to go there and that the staff would probably not remember them and kick them out.
My parents breezed through town a week before Christmas, and blew back from Jamaica on the 28th, so the Day itself was spent quietly, visiting green_trilobite's mom, eating at the King's Noodle on Spadina, then back home for the traditional watching of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
New Year's Eve I took one of the rare opportunities left to me as an Old Married Lady (tm) to undress to go out; also, there was Ice-Cider, fetched from the wilds of the Keele & St-Clair LCBO, and as it turned out, worth the trip and the mild panic over whether I'd get carded (It occasionally still happens, really it does, and I don't have a drivers' license with which to prove I'm 31). I have been asked to get two bottles of the stuff next year.
New Year's Day we went for a photography expedition along the Lakeshore, green_trilobite taking artful photos and I taking fuzzy photos for later reference when sketching. We had soup at the motel I don't know the name of, which is ritzily decorated but still has old-Lakeshore-motel charm, as exemplified by the hooker teetering on acrylic heels through the parking lot.
My last day of vacation was spent in my going to the dentist and green_trilobite trying to make the printer work as our show at Birds & Beans goes up on the 6th. I think it finally started to co-operate sometime around midnight.
