Well, the Americans now have the government that slightly more than half of them deserve. They really do need to develop a three-party sytem, because this binary us-versus-them stuff is beginning to drag them down. I don’t think I can bring myself to read any of my regular blogs from the States, not for a day or so. I’m dreading the carte blanche that Bush no doubt feels he has, now that he’s got a second term.
On the one hand, I’m terribly grateful to be living this side of the border, on the other - I feel so powerless. Scary stuff is happening to the south of us, and all I can do is hope the government I helped elect here won’t collaborate with anything bad, and plan my campaign of resistance in case Bush and his cronies won’t take our no for an answer, and decides to save Canada from the Liberals or something.
I kind of feel like I’m in Poland, and not just because my local grocery carries a selection of imported Eastern European foodstuffs.
