The BipolarBear took it into his head to get a 12-inch Powerbook, rather than wait for iPods or PDAs to do the things he wants them to. Also, he reasoned, if there's a second machine in the house he won't have to ask me to stop doing artistic things in Photoshop when he wants to websurf. He is now wishing he'd got one six months ago, as he's absolutely in love with the little machine. He's named it "Douglas" (as in the late Mr. Adams.) I have to admit, I'd been secretly hoping for years we'd get a laptop in the house - it never fails to delight me that we've reached the point where machines are pretty again.
He also treated me to The Sims (so you'll probably never hear from me again once it's installed) and himself to Spiderman, which he's just started to play, and sounds to be enjoying (Bruce Campbell is the sarcastic narrator of the moves tutorial.)
I'm amusing myself in a slightly more idiosyncratic way upon the computer - checking out the Ueshima Coffee Company (UCC) website - it's all in Japanese, but I like to look at the pictures and flash animations every so often. They've been pitching their black-coffee-in-a-can to salarymen, and to that end have started an online magazine "for executives." This month's issue appears to be all about neckties.
