I assume the French had reasons for electing the conservative candidate other than to win over the Americans. Cause, y'know, the sort of Americans who believe the French are the very definition of wine-drinking snobs and cowardly to boot, and who laugh whenever Paris gets blown up in a movie, probably didn't even know an election was going on, and anyway they're not likely to give up one of the only ethnic stereotypes they can still get away with.

I don't know, I thought Selogene Royal probably lost the election all on her lonesome with some of the things she said during the campaign.

I guess it was just the way the newspaper was reporting it as "the French vote for conservatism and rapprochement with the US" that got me wryly amused.
