The other day on Cuteoverload, I came across The Private Life of a Cat a short, silent documentary from the 1940s. Later I looked up the woman who made it, Maya Deren; turns out she was a pretty well-known avant-garde filmaker in the '40s and '50s. Youtube also has her film Meshes of the Afternoon, which is less interesting than the cat film, but contains some arresting images. I pulled some frames and did ink drawings based upon them.
