(On the death of Vonnegut) Nicole J Leboef says it better:
My immediate reaction to that news was probably not safe for the family friendly zone. It was four letters long. You can fill in that blank. My second reaction, about a minute later, was, “Ah well. We had him for a good 84 years. That’s longer than we had Douglas Adams or Freddie Mercury.” And around dinner-time tonight I found myself thinking, “Wherever he is, he is going to be so pissed that he didn’t outlive the Bush presidency.” I don’t know whether those thoughts fit with the Stages of Grief commonplace, but them’s what I thunk.

Today's Globe had a full-page article about Vonnegut which was quite good. It started off with the story of an address he made to the American Humanist Association (I think), where he served as president following the death of Isaac Asimov. He started by saying, "Well, I guess Isaac is in heaven now," and had the entire room rolling in the aisles.
