My last posting, at 2 am Wednesday morning, got lost. I must remember to push the right buttons.
Our cat, the little orange terror, now officially weighs 14.3 lb. The vet says his ideal weight is around 12lb., but as we’d been winnowing him down from over 18 lb. over the last couple of years, this is a major advancement.

Yesterday came an e-mail from a friend who was in town to see her thesis advisor, trying to get people together for the evening, as she is moving back to Australia (from Seattle) and likely won’t visit us again for some time. She got a very good turnout for such short notice, tho’ I’m afraid I spent less time talking to her than I should have; but the BPB made up for my conversational shortcomings. I was chatting with my usual conversation partner at social events, who I shall hereafter refer to as “Doc,” tho’ that is not his real name, or even his real nickname. I don’t suppose anyone has been called “doc” since 1961 or thereabouts. I realize that if I am to keep up my attempts at anonymity, I shall have to come up with consistent pseudonyms for everyone I know.
“K”, when I told her I was keeping a blog, but not telling any of my friends where it was, says she actually has a public blog and a private one. I think I’ll stick to my private blogging, but remember any good turns of phrase I devise for use in live conversation....

The BPB is quite gloomed out by the writers’ decision to kill off Elongated Man’s wife Sue - not being a big DC reader I’m less upset. As it happened, it was Doc, another big comics geek, who alerted him to this plot twist; afterwards the BPB commented that if anyone else had broken it to him he would’ve been upset with them as well as DC, but Doc makes a good messenger for bad news, because he’s...well, not blunt. He’s sympathetic, but he doesn’t see the point of withholding information (he has mild Asberger’s, or something). I realized this is probably why I like talking to him - he’s also very hard to shock. Not that our conversation is usually all that disturbing - last night, for example, we mostly talked about commas and apostrophes.
