To the Amish Elders who got Quoted in the Newpsapers:
I know you're upset, and you were probably confused and under pressure to Say Something Appropriate, but I can't think of a theology in which a guy murdering a bunch of kids qualifies as an "Act of God," rather than a human behaving really really badly. The killer sinned, big time, and you can condemn or forgive him according to your beliefs, but the world doesn't need anybody else thinking God tells people to kill little girls.
Possibly the papers mis-quoted you or took you out of context or something, in which case I apologize and address my argument to them.

Date: 2006-10-03 05:14 pm (UTC)From:Initially when I heard about this, my feeling was,"Christ, what the &%$@! is up with the world that people can go around shooting little girls."
Then it occurred to me that we heard about this because it happened here. In Darfur and other wartorn areas around the world this sort of crap happens every day - when children are being blown to bits by landmines, raped as a cure for AIDS, or paid 5 cents a day to make pairs of Nikes.
Cynicism? Me? Nahhhh...
