I didn’t even mention all the odd little background details that are never pointed out or explained, like a priest blessing a row of motor-scooters, or an early moment when Alfie’s tyrannical supervisor gets off the bus and apparently gets attacked by a mob of schoolgirls.
The motor scooters remind me of the blessing for the sewing machine in Fiddler on the Roof. (It gets a bris.)
