The CBC equivalents that I listened to as a kid were "The Max Ferguson Show," and "Eclectic Circus," the latter hosted by Alan McFee and his imaginary mouse friend, addressing all the listeners out in Vaccuumland. McFee had a beautiful old-school radio-announcer voice and apparently was even madder than he sounded, with a tendency to start fires in the studios whenever he got bored, which happened pretty easily. The CBC was stuck with him because he was popular with listeners, and because he'd worked there since the 1930s. He was stuck with the CBC because his half-hearted attempts to murder the upper management kept failing.
