The thing that’s begun to rankle is that whenever these minor objections happen, they take the form of my supervisor telling me that someone above him noticed me leave at 4:43 instead of 4:45pm, or is going to object to the fact that I hung a picture in my office* if they happen to see it; and I’ve begun to wonder whether he’s the one who objects but doesn’t want to take personal responsibility, or if his supervisors really feel that passing this kind of thing down the chain of command is a good use of his time. OTOH I never feel quite secure enough in any job to argue.
* i.e. one that isn’t one of the ones that was already there when I arrived three years ago. We didn’t have a company-branded calendar printed for 2020 last year, and I got sick of looking at the space where the 2019 calendar previously hung so I brought a small painting from home.
