Have watched the first two episodes of Perry Mason— another one that begins with a gruesome child death, but if you can bear that, it’s got a terrific cast: apart from Shea Whigham and Matthew Rhys, you get John Lithgow being John Lithgow, Chris Chalk being beautiful, Tatiana Maslany as not-Aimee-Semple-MacPherson, Juliet Rylance wearing a lovely stripey sweater in Episode One, Gayle Rankin being luminous and heartbreaking, and a bunch of other awesome performances. Whigham appears to be having a ball as Masons’s occasional partner in sleazy gumshoe jobs who’s also a big fan of serialized romance novels.
