Thanks for distracting me with this thread though. Not only does it remind me to take my iodine supplement but I would have otherwise stayed up all night working on the Nakamichi BX-150 tape deck that I found on the curb this afternoon. (Not to mention the Pioneer CLD-990 laser disc player!). As you can see in the attached picture, the floating wheel between the two reels is not snug enough against the drive shaft: causing the unit to eat tapes. It's a total disassembly job to get to the spring that's worn out.
Although, hmmm......"thread". Perhaps additional tension could be created with a cunning web of nylon thread! Get back to you on inbreeding in a minute.......
Update: It was an all-nighter but I now have a reasonably working top-of-the-line tapedeck.
