Realized this morning that the thing which annoys me about Facebook isn't the layout or whatever people are currently complaining about; it's being unable to speak to anyone I haven't friended - I keep coming across discussion threads I can see because I'm friends with one of the commenters, but can't join because I'm not a friend of the original poster. I suppose this limits trolling*, but it feels rather like I'm in one of those jokes about being unable to speak to someone because we haven't been introduced.....

* to be fair, the comment I wanted to post might have qualified as trolling - the conversation had already segued from "lamenting the proliferation of Che Guevera T-shirts" to "Damn kids these days wear Misfits T-shirts without knowing who the Misfits were." Given that example, I wanted to suggest that fans of 1940s adventure serials might make the same complaint about Misfits fans wearing the image of The Crimson Ghost.

Honestly? I think it's just FailBook. I cannot stand it. And for similar reasons. It feels very constrictive, restrictive to me and just not that fun. I really prefer LJ and wish it was more like the crazed heyday of a decade ago.

Agreed, except that a decade ago my LJ never got any comments, so from my POV at least the Death of LJ has ben much exaggerated....

Do people really wear things without knowing what they are? That seems so weird to me. Mind you, so does the thought of marching up to a kid in a Jack Skellington hoodie and demanding they sing a few verses of 'This is Hallowe'en', to prove they've actually seen NMBC, which I've actually heard of people doing. :/
That said, it -does- seem weird to me when I see teenagers wearing vintage-design Ninja Turtles shirts. I haven't revisited the cartoon at all, because I'm at least 50% sure it was actually terrible. Like He-Man. Christ, He-Man was awful. Which I guess I didn't realize as a two year old...
