I didn’t see this Bob Dylan cover of Must Be Santa when it came out ca. 2009; I was introduced to the music video this morning, and there’s a lot going on in it.
1. The hilarious stillness of Dylan’s expression. Also he can apparently teleport and change his hat.
2. This Xmas party strikes me as Jewish-coded, but I’m a gentile so I’m not sure if it’s weird of me to say that.
3. The handheld camera and swish pans make this feel like one of those one-long-take scenes, but there are really multiple cuts.
4. Including the sudden exterior shot.
5. The video was directed by Nash Edgerton, who is also a stuntman. This becomes relevant in the last quarter of the video.
6. I’d no idea Santa named some of his reindeer after US presidents.
7. Apparently Dylan’s long gray hair in this video is a wig. I am still unable to spot wigs, because I thought noth8ng of it.
