Just saw the weirdest story on local news. As far as I could tell, one or more witnesses saw a woman get into a white van on the weekend and thought it looked like the driver was forcing her to get in? But there’s no footage of the incident, so I can’t judge if it really looked suspicious or if the person who reported it just assumes all white vans are driven by human traffickers.
They showed two snapshots that someone had taken of her before she got in the van, which sounds potentially creepier than the van incident itself—who took these photos of a stranger walking down the street?. Also they were among the least-helpful images I’ve ever seen, because you can’t see her face in either of them—in the first shot it’s hidden by her umbrella, and in the second she’s walking away from the camera. The news anchor kept insisting her “stance” might be recognizable.
The tv was reporting this as a real possible crime, but it sounded as though there are no recent missing-persons reports that match the woman's description, so they were… idk, asking everybody who knows a young woman with long dark hair to call her and make sure she hasn’t been kidnapped?
Maybe it is all real, in which case I'll feel guilty for posting this, but right now the story feels like an email forward from a concerned relative who believes every urban legend.
ETA-- As of lunch break, it did sound as though there had been multiple witnesses who thought something dodgy was going on, but they still had no identity for the woman or any particular suggestions for the public. Also googling indicates this all happened on August 18th (!), so you'd think somebody would have reported a missing-person by now (or not-- there are plenty of reasons people *don't* get reported missing).
