I went out for groceries this morning— normally I take the 77 bus north to Bloor, or just walk up, but today there was an eastbound 80 bus waiting at the intersection, so I decided to take it and loop around High Park to the subway line, as I figured it might be the closest view I get of the park for the next few weeks while the cherries are in bloom. They really have barricaded the whole place off, and there were guards posted as well. I understand why it’s necessary— even before COVID they’d begun closing the park to motor vehicles during blossom season in order to lessen the crowding— but it was weird to see flowers being guarded so assiduously.

My mindset, in times like these, always seems to be a mix of “this is horrifying” and “this is fascinating.” It’s hard to talk to about the fascinating aspects without being upsetting, though, so I just end up doing weird google searches to see if anyone else is worrying along the same lines.

Meanwhile, Andrew really enjoyed both versions of the National Theatre’s Frankenstein, but thought the version with Cumberbatch as Frankenstein was slightly better balanced, because he’s good at playing a cold bastard (he did like Cumberbatch’s Creature slightly better as well, though— I think his ideal version would have been Cumberbatch somehow playing *both* characters.
