Work griping
Dec. 5th, 2018 12:44 pmArrgh. Hoping I haven’t screwed up – I was told two days ago, as one of my new duties, that I had to order the catered lunch for some visitors and that we couldn’t order in our usual deli sandwich tray because at least one was vegetarian, and at least one other was avoiding processed meats. So I asked “ovo-lacto, vegetarian or vegan?” and got:
“It’s just plain simple vegetarian. YOU DECIDE AND MAKE THE ARRANGEMENTS. No need for too much consultation or inquiries with our guests’ doctors, nutritionists, allergists or psychotherapists.”
I couldn’t find all-vegan or even all-vegetarian catered menus that weren’t for wedding receptions, and I didn’t want to subject everybody to salad and fruit only, so eventually I ordered the Breakfast Wrap assortment from Pickle Barrel and asked them to 1. Leave out the ham wraps, and 2. Make at least one of the cream-cheese, avocado, lox and lettuce wraps without the lox. Basically I assumed they could do dairy but not necessarily eggs. However if guest is avoiding cheese they’re still left with only the fruit plate and the muffins my colleague ordered in; and meanwhile everyone else has to put up with sandwich wraps that mostly use egg rather than meat as the protein. Maybe they’ll fight over the ones with lox. Anyway, I’m worried everyone will be mad, but that’s what happens when they tell me there are dietary restrictions and then don’t answer my requests for more detail.
Gah.
