Rechecked some sources -- I think I've been misremembering the concepts of the Beautiful and the Picturesque -- I thought of them as opposed, but in eighteenth-century aesthetic theory it's the Beautiful and the Sublime that are opposed, and the Picturesque is sort of the balance point. Also, my idea of Picturesque is probably closer to Grotesque. So basically I'm more of a Gothic-Romantic. But you probably all knew that by now.
