Weekend Report
Feb. 20th, 2012 09:49 pmTook second cat for vet checkup (he's a bit overweight, but otherwise fine). Finished the fairisle sweater; purchased black jeggings and a coupla pairs of cheap-and-cheerful flats, so my spring casual wardrobe is pretty much set.
Watched old Dr. Who story, the Sensorites; wondered if the Sensorites had influenced the Ood on Nu-Who* (apparently androgynous race who use a stethescope-like device to channel their telepathy and all have beards - not tentacly ones, but not quite human-looking ones either), and concluded that they had when Susan described the orange sky of her homeworld - although she didn't directly name Gallifrey, this is the story that established their sky as orange, so the new crop of writers must have watched it.
Watched Laurel & Hardy movies, most of which I only knew from stills and synopsis; noticed in Twice Two that Ollie had a tattoo of a leaf on one forearm. Reflected that if anyone ever decides to do a biographical film of unjustly-forgotten comic Charley Chase, they could do worse than cast Stephen Coulbert. The world of Hal Roach comedies is a very flimsy one; for much of today I was acutely aware of every time I bumped into a piece of furniture or had to pull on something, and half expected each time that the object in question would fall apart with a loud crash.
Replaced the power cord for my laptop (not cheaply, but better than having to get a whole new laptop as green_trilobite feared); Recorded a half-hour interview with Martin Springett which I'll have to transcribe and edit for length before sending it to Chizine to post with some of his illustrations.
*Just looked it up - according to Russell T. Davies, the Ood were totally based on the Sensorites, and were implied to be a related species.
