Writing about writing

So as Supervillain lurches back to its feet, LaBrea's inventor boyfriend has a name (Jay Loden) and a past that contains more superfolk than he'd like to admit, but I still have no plausible excuse to bring him into the story; which is a pity, because I have a very clear notion of what his garage looks like:


...piled past the rafters with oddities and mechanical parts, as well as Loden’s tiny car, nimbly parallel-parked between a freezer-chest that could have held a yeti carcass and what looked like a mechanical Clydesdale with no head. In another corner the inventor was hunched over a worktable beneath a dusty lamp.
“Hello, Tulip.” Without raising his head, he waved to Angela with his free hand. The other was grasping a pair of tweezers, which in turn grasped a nanoscule bundle of threadlike fibre-optic cables....
