Boomerang Strike
Apr. 25th, 2008 11:52 pmWe all breathed a sigh of relief on Monday when the TTC didn't go on strike, but they failed to ratify the agreement over the course of the week, and tonight they announced that as of midnight they *are* on strike. Zale, Anonymous Don, green_trilobite and I found this out on our way home while waiting for a Queen streetcar: all of a sudden we were approached by a news cameraman looking for sound bites. Zale and green_trilobite gave them some good one. I think Don slipped up and swore, so they probably won't use him, and they didn't bother asking me. As this was going on a woman came by from the Globe & Mail night desk - all the official reporters had gone home for the weekend earlier, so she was out getting quotes on her own initiative (I hope she gets a promotion for that). She interviewed green_trilobite. Meanwhile I noticed another reporter taking photos of us waiting for the streetcar. I assume the four of us will be all over the news tomorrow as the face of annoyed Toronto commuters.
green_trilobite and I got a Roncesvalles streetcar, and walked home through the park (green_trilobite deploying a flashlight) rather than wait any longer. The walk reminded me of summer evenings in the small town I grew up in; I've lived in Toronto for half my life now, and I don't miss that town socially, but I miss it as a landscape, I miss the smell of the air.
