Today's Report, with Perfume Reviews
Aug. 21st, 2007 08:32 pmgreen_trilobite has a cold, so I stayed home from work today to look after him and the MiL - good thing too - he was really zonked and she kept staring at us and declaiming THE FOX CAN ONLY BE SEEN IN ITS PROPER FORM over and over again (she was talking about a sculpture she made years ago, but I'm still not sure what she meant). However, when I checked the mail this evening, my birthday BPAL imps had arrived:
Whip, Urd, Black Pearl - these were all re-orders of ones I like but had given away or run low on.
Hellcat - A soft, sensual, luxuriant blend with a wicked bite: hazelnut, buttercream, honey mead, rum and sweet almond. - in the bottle - boozier than I remember - like amaretto and butter, not butterscotch; will try it on later; very promising.
Hellfire - NEW FORMULATION A scent celebrating Sir Francis Dashwood's Order of the Knights of St. Francis of Wycombe, also known as the Hellfire Club. A swirl of pipe tobacco, hot leather, ambergris, dark musk and the lingering incense smoke from their Black Mass. - tried on - oh yeah, baby: I smell faintly, deliciously, like woodsmoke; exactly how I used to smell after a bonfire, but less..grubby; this'll be a great one for fall. Note: also blends well with Whip, my all-time favourite BPAL scent (damp roses and leather). ADD: Drydown - now I smell like old bookpaper. That's good too.
Ultraviolet - Electrifying, mechanized and chilly -- the scent of crushed blooms strewn on cold metal. Lush violet and neroli spiked hard with eucalyptus and a sliver of mint. - in the bottle - mm, *minty*; more than anything else; I like mint, but I don't want to try this on now and risk clashing with the Hellfire and Whip; I'll try it later in the week when the weather gets hot again.
Freebies:
I Died for Beauty - The Venusian splendor of ylang ylang and violet stirred by hyssop, frankincense, and grave loam. [grave loam, in this case, is oakmoss and Spanish Moss]: I don't know - maybe it's the ylang-ylang, but this smells a little perfume-department for my tastes; still, I might try it on later.
Baobhan Sith - The ghostly White Women of the Scottish highlands. They seduce unwary travelers by night with their unearthly beauty and mesmerizing dancing. They engage their victims in a wild, hypnotic dance, and once they reach exhaustion, exsanguinate their partners with their vampiric kiss. Grapefruit, white tea, apple blossom and ginger.: in the bottle - grapefruit.. and.. herbs of some sort; I like citrus, but this went all weird and salty-smelling when I tried a bit on my fingertips. I don't think it's for me - pity, because I quite like the name, but then BPAL wins at gothy names.
